Arctic

Take an adventure holiday in the high ARCTIC with World Expeditions, one of the world’s leading travel companies.

The most northern parts of the world hold a special allure to the adventure traveller. The countries of Canada, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Russia, Sweden, United States all own parts of the Arctic region and numerous indigenous groups have territorial claims as well.

The Arctic land area cover over 7 million square miles; mostly consisting of ice-covered ocean, with the highest point being Mount Gunnbjorn 12,139 ft (Greenland Ice Sheet). The landscape varies from rolling tundra, frozen seas, soaring peaks and sparkling glaciers. The Arctic has a total Population of about 15 million of which 4 million are native.

Rainfall averages 10 to 20 inches (mostly in the form of snow) amd the average temperatures fall between 0°F and 20°F. but can range from -90°F (in winter) to 100°F (in summer) depending on location, ice cover, latitude, and proximity to the ocean. In Summer, the abundance of wildflowers and lichens in this land of endless quiet adds yet another dimension, one that's full of contrast, color and delicacy. Wildlife abounds with diversity and a trip to the high Arctic may present a rare opportunity to see in the wild - polar bears, wolves, caribou, narwhal and beluga whales.
