On this specially devised itinerary with Yoga Teacher Jan Green we combine time exploring ancient Buddhist monasteries and cultural heritage of Little Tibet with the opportunity to undertake yoga classes in a variety of serene locations. The trip highlights include time in Leh, the thriving capital of Ladakh, visiting nearby monasteries, as well as an excursion to the high altitude Pangong Tso (Lake). We then fly to Chandigarh and make our way to hilltop Indian Himalayan town of McLeod Ganj, home of the Tibetan Dalai Lama in exile, where we spend the next 5 days. On the trip, under the expert guidance of Yoga Teacher Jan Green, you will enjoy daily yoga practice (on most days) beneath the awesome backdrop of the rugged Trans Himalaya.

On arrival in Delhi you will be met by a World Expeditions representative and transferred to your hotel. Should you arrive earlier in the day we are happy to assist with any optional sightseeing. Overnight group hotel. Note: If you are arriving in Delhi on a late night flight, you may like to arrive the day before the trip commences as you have a very early start the following morning. Please talk to your World Expeditions reservations consultant for pretour accommodation options.

We board the early morning flight to from Delhi to Ladakh The spectacular flight path takes us across the backbone of the Himalaya with magnificent views of the snow capped ranges before landing at Leh the capital of Ladakh. On arrival we transfer to our comfortable hotel that affords fine views across the Indus Valley to the peaks of the Stok Kangri while to the north are the imposing peaks that form the Ladakh Range. After a mornings rest to adjust to the altitude we wander down to the main bazaar to gain a feel of what Ladakh has to offer. Overnight Umasi La Hotel, Leh.

From Leh we visit the Stok Palace on the far side of the Indus Valley. The Palace was founded in 1830’s when the Ladakh royal family were exiled from the Palace in Leh. Inside the palace there is a museum containing artifacts commemorating Ladakh’s former rulers dating back to the 10th century when its borders extended into western Tibet. From Stok it is an hour’s drive to Matho monastery set on an imposing sugarloaf mountain with commanding views across the Indus Valley The 15th century monastery is the only Buddhist monastery in Ladakh belonging to the Saka Tibetan order. During the last decade many of the temples have been renovated while a new Assembly Hall was completed in 2005. We return to Leh later that afternoon. Overnight Umasi La Hotel, Leh.

The thriving monastery at Tikse was established in the early 15th century by the Tibetan Gelug order – a reformist school founded by Tsong Karpa the great reformer that established the lineage of the Dalai Lama. The monastery is one of the most popular in Ladakh and his attracted considerable patronage that contributed to the construction of a new Maitreya temple (honoring the Buddha to come) that appeals to all members of the Buddhist faith. The open meadows below the monastery offer an ideal site for mediation and yoga classes. Overnight Umasi La Hotel, Leh.

We depart Leh this morning and make our way to Sakti. En-route we will visit the Hemis Monastery, The monastery is the most popular monastery and tourist attraction in Ladakh. Situated some 45 kms from Leh City, Hemis is tucked on a mountain on the west bank of the serene River Indus. The monastery belongs to Dugpa Kargyutpa order or Red Sect of Buddhism and is said to be enriched with a large number of Thangkas or paintings, which are exhibited during the one of the famous festivals in Ladakh, Hemis Festival. There is also a museum in the premises of the monastery, where several ancient religious and historical paintings (Thangkas), weapons, carriers, and even a stuffed vulture pup is exhibited. We will continue to Sakti for overnight. Overnight Guesthouse.

Today we drive to Pangong Tso (Lake), approx 170km/4-5 hours driving. At around 4350m the lake remains mostly frozen over the winter months from December to March. The salt water lake is about 5km wide and about 134 km long which extends into Tibet. The beautiful multi shades of blue color make this an extremely picturesque lake. Overnight Fixed Camp.

We spend two full days exploring the lake and nearby villages with daily yoga sessions. Overnight Fixed Camp.

Today we drive to Leh. We'll check into our hotel on arrival and the remainder of the day will be at leisure. Overnight Umasi La Hotel, Leh.

In Leh, open arrangements and an opportunity to visit the various Ladakh and Tibetan markets for some last minute shopping. Overnight Umasi La Hotel, Leh.

(Only Air India flight operates biweekly - Tuesday and Saturday only) We take a morning flight to Chandigarh. On arrival in Chandigarh airport transfer to hotel for overnight stay. Evening free to explore nearby areas/ malls. Overnight Homotel Hotel, Chandigarh.

Today we drive to Dharamsala/Mcleod (approx 6-7 hours drive) crossing through Himalaya’s Shivalik Hills and passing many villages. We'll arrive into Dharamsala, the winter capital of Himachal Pradesh, around mid-afternoon and the remainder of the day will be at leisure. Overnight Pride Mountain Suyra Resort, McLeod Ganj.

Our days in McLeod Ganj have been set aside for free exploration, yoga and meditation. On one of our days we'll visit the Saskya Monastery. The remainder of your time is at leisure. Overnight Pride Mountain Suyra Resort, McLeod Ganj.

Drive to Kangra airport to catch the flight to Delhi. Transfer to your hotel on arrival. Overnight Hotel Lalit.

Today is at leisure in Delhi for your own exploration and last minute shopping. Overnight Lalit Hotel.

Jan's love of yoga and meditation has spanned over 25 years and she has been teaching yoga & meditation for 15 years. Jan combines a flowing and mindful vinyasa style of yoga with an emphasis on breath and meditation practices to develop stability & strength to support you through your daily life. You will restore your energies, reveal new clarity & experience more lightness & inspiration. Jan lives a healthy lifestyle, does daily yoga practice and is very passionate about all things yoga!

She has escorted a number of Yoga and Trekking trips in the Himalaya including trips to Sikkim, Ladakh, Dharamsala, Kerala and Nepal. Jan is thrilled to return to the Indian Himalaya with you, bringing together the enjoyment of the vast Himalaya with the deep healing connection of body, mind and spirit.
