Trek the Shan Hills

Our journey begins in Mandalay from where we take a scenic two-hour drive to the former British hill station of Maymyo, now officially called Pyin Oo Lwin. The town is located on a plateau 1000m above sea level and renowned for its cooler temperatures and lush foliage. We take a five-hour scenic train ride, passing through the Gokhtiek Viaduct, to Kyauk Me a trading town nestled amid the Shan hills. From here we set off for our three-day trek, which passes through many traditional hilltribe villages where we learn about their way of life and have the unique opportunity to stay overnight in homestay accommodation. The trek finishes in the village of Kyauk Me where we transfer by road to the charming mountain town of Hsipaw. We explore Hsipaw's markets and Shan Palace before taking a longtail boat trip on the Dokehtawaddy River. The boat trip takes us ashore to a number of villages to meet the locals and learn about their culture, traditions and lifestyles.
