Great Himalaya Trail
World Expedition’s is recognised as the world leader in operating fully supported, professionally guided and all inclusive treks along the Great Himalaya Trail.
In 2016, we had 20 adventurous trekkers join us for various stages of the GHT with 4 trekkers completing the entire 1700km - Heather Hawkins, Bek Hawkins, Cal Hawkins and Matt Taylor. Have you considered joining us in 2017?
World Expedition’s first trek of Nepal’s Great Himalaya Trail was completed in July 2011 by Greg Babbage of Australia and Toni Wilson of England. In 2012, Australian Peter McVeigh became the youngest person to complete the world's longest trek.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone along the way who has made this so successful interesting and enjoyable; firstly trek company World Expeditions who have been very helpful and supportive the whole way. I’m not any different to any other man; I just decided to pursue an opportunity and a dream when the possibility arose. For those of you who have been following the blog and perhaps thinking of trekking in Nepal I say; Come…don’t hesitate, just do it, you won’t be disappointed”. - Greg Babbage, first Australian to walk the GHT in a single season.
The GHT is the longest and highest alpine walking track in the world, winding 4500kms through the tallest mountain ranges and most isolated communities from Tibet to Pakistan. The Nepal section of the GHT offers a kaleidoscope of experiences and World Expeditions are proud to offer the highest quality commercial treks beginning in late February each year.
The trail, which can be undertaken in one continuous trek of 152 days, traverses the country from east to west. Acknowledging that most of us simply don’t have the luxury of this sort of time for our adventures, we’ve crafted seven fantastic treks that can be completed individually, or trekked together to make up the full traverse. This is adventurous Himalayan trekking at it’s very finest. Superb Himalayan vistas, remote villages, high mountain passes that lead to rarely visited valleys, not to mention the camaraderie and immense reward that comes from completing an adventure of this kind. Each section of the GHT offers something different and many of our travellers choose to complete multiple sections in order to experience the diversity and contrasts found along the GHT.
Aside from being an adventure of a lifetime, by joining one of the GHT treks you will be helping us achieve our vision of sharing the benefits of tourism with isolated mountain communities. We do this by employing some of our porters, support staff and purchasing provisions from these various regions. We also practice Leave No Trace principles to the fullest extent possible, taking out what we take in, and doing what we can to leave nothing but footprints in the fragile mountain ecosystems we travel through. This is sustainable tourism in practice and we encourage you to also commit to this vision as you undertake this exciting journey into more remote Himalayan communities.
Trekking along the GHT is an opportunity to experience some of the least visited, most hidden corners of Nepal, where you will be struck with awe and wonder at the scale and grandeur of the land and the warmth and hospitality of the people that live throughout the Himalaya.
Join us for a trip of a lifetime trek along the GHT!
