Kilimanjaro Shira Route

Just got back from Mt. Kilimanjaro with my son (we both made it to the peak) and the experience exceeded my expectations in every regard. It was better that I had hoped for and I want to thank you very much for all the assistance, hand holding, and help before the trip. I had never done anything like this, but I can't wait to try it again.

Kenya located in Eastern Africa is bordered to the north by Ethiopia, in the northeast by Somalia, in the south by Tanzania, to the west by Uganda and Sudan to the northwest. Kenya’s varied landscape is home to much wildlife including the ‘Big Five’ – lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant. A significant population of other wild animals, reptiles and birds can be found in the national parks and game reserves in the country. Most notably is the Masai Mara, which is a large reserve in south western Kenya which is famous for its exceptional population of game as well as the annual migration of wildebeest every July and August.

The Weather in Kenya

The wet seasons in Kenya are generally March–May (‘long rains’) and October–November (‘short rains’). Downpours occur mostly in the late afternoons, with the earlier part of the day generally being warm and sunny. Temperatures in Nairobi range from 11–23˚C in July and 13–28˚C in February. Nairobi and the highlands can get cold, especially in the evenings, during July and August. Kisumu on Lake Victoria can be quite hot and humid.
