Best of Peru & Bolivia

My daughter and I have recently returned from a World Expeditions Best of Peru and Bolivia tour and I thought that I would give you our thoughts on the tour. The accommodation, meals, transport and organisation were excellent Ė the long-boat trips were just lovely.

After arriving at our accommodation in Cusco (the owner was such a nice woman) we met our main guide, Veronica Illa. There was nothing that Veronica didnít know about this wonderful area around Cusco and she was willing to do anything for us. She is certainly a wonderful guide and we feel privileged that she was our tour leader. Once again the transport, drivers and attractions we visited were excellent. We were always picked up on time and our luggage was always taken care of. Everything ran very smoothly.

The ruins at Ollantaytambo were breathtaking and Veronica explained in detail, the Inca history. We loved our accommodation here! We started off on our 4 day Inca trek and at an early stage got to marvel at our wonderful porters. They are such hard working people who we admired greatly. The tents were always set up for us well before we arrived for meals and sleeping (and the toilet facilities).

But I think everyone was surprised by the quality and quantity of the food that was served up for each meal Ė piping hot and on time, every time. The gear pack and tents were all in very good condition and everything ran like clockwork. We were sad to see our porters leave us on Day 4.

The history of Machu Picchu was explained so well by Veronica and we had a lovely stay at Aguas Calientes before our trip back to Cusco.

Lake Titicaca is a magical place. The floating islands are amazing but the jewel in the crown on the lake was Taquile Island. We had such a wonderful time on this island with the homestay family. The family was very welcoming and we had a fun-filled time with their 3 little girls. They served us lovely food and we could have quite happily spent another night on this island to wander and discover a little more.

Our Bolivian guide, Sandro Diaz and our new driver took us to our lovely Hotel in La Paz.
We felt that Peru was so happy to welcome tourists to their wonderful country.

Overall,we had a wonderful experience in a different culture which we enjoyed immensely. I knew that I would love Peru but I just didnít realise how much !! Thank you World Expeditions.

Our Style of Travel

Experience - at the heart of all our adventures ...Adventure Travel holidays: It's all about experiences

An adventure travel holiday is about experience. Whether viewing Everest, the world's highest mountain, from a trek to Base Camp in Nepal, witnessing the magic of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate on the Inca Trail in Peru, revelling in the festivities of a Devali street party in India or sitting amongst what feels like a million penguins on South Georgia, we aim to capture the essence of this experience on our adventure travel holidays. Our adventure tours are about discovery, personal achievement & camaraderie. They will challenge, inspire and flirt with all your senses. Travelling the paths less trodden, visiting isolated communities, old sites and spectacular landscapes are synonymous with World Expeditions adventures.

Guides with extensive local knowledge …

You get the best of both worlds on a World Expeditions adventure. For over 30 years we have worked with elite adventurers the world over. Recognised authorities in their field, many are world-class photographers, authors and mountaineers. Their passion and expertise has ensured that we are continually updating and refining our programmes, taking adventure travel to new heights. Of equal importance are our local guides who ensure that someone with a comprehensive understanding of regional conditions and culture leads your trip. We have trained group leaders in all our operations. Validated by customer feedback, our policy ensures employees with unparalleled enthusiasm and experience.

Adventure travel holidays for all ages and fitness levels

World Expeditions has a wide range of trekking & adventure travel holidays to suit nearly everyone. Our adventures are clearly graded to ensure you can match your fitness level to an appropriate trip. For some, an adventure travel holiday means trekking in the Himalayas, for others it is a cultural journey along the Silk Road from Beijing to Tashkent. We've split our adventures into various brochures to help you navigate your way to the right adventure experience for you. From introductory graded treks to advanced mountaineering, our Active Adventures brochure features more active, tent based trekking holidays to the world's most remote wilderness destinations. Our Journeys of Discovery brochure features adventure travel holidays that feature carefully planned itineraries that offer less physical activity during the day, more dedicated cultural excursions and comfortable accommodations at night.

Journeys as individual as you are …

While we offer an extensive range of adventure travel programmes, we recognise that they may not suit your personal requirements. We regularly custom-tailor holidays for families, friends, charities, schools and special-interest groups. Our staff will work with you, using their expertise and experience to help make your ultimate adventure a reality.
