After breakfast we begin our drive to the capital of Vientiane, stopping along the way to visit the Tham Jang caves in the scenic town of Vang Vieng, nestled among limestone karst outcrops on a bend in the Nam Song River. Arriving in Vientiane in the late afternoon, the remainder of the day will be free to start exploring this charming and relaxing city. Set on the banks of the Mekong River, Vientiane is an interesting mix of Lao, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and French influences, and a stroll around the city reveals a blend of temples, monuments, restaurants, markets, French colonial buildings and traditional Laotian architecture. Total drive time is up to 10 hours.
Overnight in Vientiane.
