Madagascar Now More Accessible

Getting to the island country is easier and cheaper than ever

Set to operate three times weekly, Ethiopia Airlines' new service to Antananarivo, Madagascar, will fly to and from Ethiopian airline’s hub at Addis Ababa. This hub connects to and from major cities around the world, including Washington, Newark, Los Angeles and Toronto.

A COMPLETE EXPLORATION | From walking across grassy plateaus, crossing starkly eroded hills and climbing up amongst moonscape rock formations, this trip offers an immersive exploration of the island. Travellers will discover natural swimming pools and remote rivers, take night walks to spot nocturnal fauna, search for ‘fosa’ (the island’s largest carnivore) and traverse the iconic ‘Baobab Alley’.

TROPICAL BEACHES AND EXOTIC AROMAS | This itinerary provides an insight into the northern coast, a little-visited section of the island. With white coral beaches and clear blue waters combined with rainforests teeming with wildlife, a craggy coastline, and the lakes and waterfalls of the forested hinterland, it’s an adventure like no other.

GETTING OFF THE BEATEN TRACK | Setting off from the dry Central Highlands, travellers pass through lush verdant landscapes and small village communities where tropical fruits and terraced fields set the scene. In the rainforest, travellers can take both day and night walks in the forest to view colorful chameleons and lemurs before travelling by boat on a series of lakes and along narrow canals en route to coastal fishing villages.

A SHORT AND SWEET INTRODUCTION | This trip explores the spectacular collection of the island’s top national parks, taking in the full diversity of the land and animals. For its unique flare, the itinerary also includes visits to the woodcarving capital Ambositra, the city of Antsirabe, known for its high concentration of ‘pousse-pousse’ (pulled rickshaws), as well as the colourful town of Ambalavao, whose local craftspeople manufacture ‘antaimoro’ paper from the bark of ahova trees.
